Weekly News Bulletin – 24 November 2014

It was a quiet morning at Main Beach on Sunday with no Nippers due to the branch carnival at Lennox Head. 27 Nippers represented our club in very challenging conditions. Most surf events ended up being run in Lake Ainsworth as the surf conditions were too treacherous. Yamba Nippers came away from the carnival with a total of 13 medals, 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze. Congratulations to U10’s Kalani Ives who won gold in all her events; swim, board race, flags and beach sprint. Malik Elabbasi won gold in the U10’s male board race and narrowly missed a medal placing fourth in his board event. Sam Earle won silver in the U9’s male swim and Alani Berry won bronze in the U9’s female swim. Carissa Miltiadou won bronze in the U11’s female beach flags and just missed out on a second bronze medal in the beach sprints, placing fourth. Cameron Varcoe won silver in the U11’s male beach sprints. Carissa and Cameron teamed up with club mates Tamia Griffin and William Earle to win silver in the U11’s beach relay. Tyreece Kapeen won bronze in the U12’s male beach sprints and just missed a medal in the beach flags, coming fourth. Jorden Elabbasi won bronze in both the U13’s male surf swim and board race. All Yamba SLSC Nippers competed well and we are proud of all their achievement, well done kids! A special mention to club members, Roger Varcoe and Andrea Miltiadou, who rescued a young nipper competitor who fainted during a swim event at the Branch Nipper Carnival at Lennox Heads on Sunday. After a couple of week’s disruption, Nippers will be back at Main Beach this Sunday 9:30-11:30am.

Rough conditions at Main Beach on Sunday made for a tough surf race for swimmers participating in the Carl Schaffer Handicap Swim. First place went to Charlie Bindon, swimming off 100 seconds, second was Joe Dougherty, off 220 seconds and third was Lindsey Wall off 210 seconds.

Good luck to the two Yamba Surf Boat Crews heading to Coffs Harbour on Saturday for the Coffs Craft Carnival. The U23 and Reserve boat crews are hoping to continue the Yamba Boaties success at recent carnivals.
