Nippers
Welcome to the Yamba SLSC Nippers Junior Surf Lifesaving program. Our program focuses on teaching surf skills and beach safety to the youngest members of our community with the aim of developing the next generation of surf lifesavers.

Nippers run most Sunday mornings from 8:45am-10:30am from October through to March. The Nipper program’s aim is to educate through age-appropriate activities to develop the skills required to be a lifesaver. Our focus is to create a fun and safe environment for all participants. Being a Nipper is more than just another sport. It is a pathway to being a member of one of the oldest volunteer organisations in Australia that is community respected and provides invaluable service. And while we are at it, we get the opportunity to create great relationships and memories for life.
Age Groups

The program is open to children who are six years old before the 30th September 2026. Each nipper must have at least one parent or guardian be a member of Yamba SLSC. For more information see our Age Groups Page.
Carnivals
Yamba Surf Life Saving Club is part of the Far North Coast Branch, which stretches from Fingal to Yamba. Our U8–U14 members have the opportunity to compete at branch-level carnivals, testing their skills, making new friends, and having fun on the beach. If your child wants to take part in a local carnival, please notify the JAC Coordinator by the Sunday before the event. All competitors must meet the required competition skills proficiency, ensuring they are safe and confident while enjoying the excitement of surf sports.

Surf Life Saving Australia sets the minimum water proficiency standards that every child must meet before participating in any club water activities, including both training and competition. These standards ensure all members are safe and prepared in the water. For more information, including requirements and testing details, please visit our Proficiency Page.
Uniforms & Merchandise

All Nippers fees include a pink high-visibility singlet and an age-coloured cap, which are compulsory while participating in Nippers activities. Caps and vests are distributed at the start of each season.
For competitions, club caps are mandatory at all carnivals and are available for purchase through the club office.
All other Yamba SLSC merchandise and apparel can be purchased throughout the season via the office, bar, or merchandise open days.
Boards

Nipper boards are available for all Nippers to use during Sunday sessions and at other times when the board shed is open. Members are asked to care for the boards responsibly, rinsing and returning them to the shed after each use. Boards should never be left on the beach, sat on in the sand, or dragged along the ground — they must always be lifted and carried safely. Any damage should be reported to Yamba SLSC immediately to ensure the boards remain in good condition for everyone. Those members who purchase their own new Nipper Boards, may be eligible for the Board subsidy. Please contact the office for more information.
