Youth Engagement Program

At Yamba Surf Lifesaving Club, our Youth Engagement Program is a cadet program designed for members aged 14–18 years who are ready to take the next step in their surf lifesaving journey. This is an exciting and formative stage where young members build confidence, strengthen their lifesaving skills, and develop leadership qualities that will stay with them for life.

the next generation of lifesavers

Our Youth Engagement Program focuses on creating capable, confident and connected young surf lifesavers. We are passionate about supporting our cadets as they continue to grow within our club — progressing their awards, refining their rescue skills, and building a lifelong connection to the surf lifesaving community. Our cadets are supported both in and out of the water through a well-rounded development program designed to build strong, confident young lifesavers. This includes weekly strength and conditioning sessions, skill development and advanced lifesaving training such as the Bronze Medallion, First Aid, IRB Crew Certificate and SLS Age Manager Assistant Course. Cadets also take part in information workshops covering training tips and techniques, along with education on hydration and fuelling the body for competition and training. We provide girls-only sessions focused on training and performance during menstruation, as well as social gatherings, team-building events and camps designed to strengthen friendships and develop leadership skills.

Pathways to Leadership & Lifesaving

Our program proudly aligns with the Surf Life Saving NSW Youth Engagement Strategy, ensuring we provide structured, meaningful pathways for youth development within surf lifesaving, where you can thrive and feel welcome!

We warmly welcome new members who are eager to challenge themselves, grow their skills, and be a part of something bigger. Whether you are looking to improve your fitness, build confidence, develop leadership capabilities, or simply be part of a supportive and motivated community, the Yamba Cadets program offers an environment.

Whether your goal is competition, patrol excellence, leadership, or lifelong friendships, our Youth Engagement Program is where the next generation of surf lifesavers thrive.

At Yamba SLSC, youth engagement is not an afterthought — it is a priority. We are committed to developing the surf lifesavers of the future by fostering resilience, teamwork, leadership and a strong sense of belonging.
