Nipper carnivals provide a positive and supportive environment where young members can challenge themselves, develop their skills and take pride in representing their club.

Individual Events

Wade Race - U8's

Competitors sprint from the start line into the water and wade around a set course.

Board Race U9-U14

Paddling a board from the beach, out through the break, around a set of buoys and back to shore.

Beach Flags

Lying flat on the sand, then getting up and running a short distance to grasp lengths of hose standing in the sand. The event is run over a number of rounds with a child eliminated each round until there is an individual winner.

Distance Runs - U11-U14

An endurance event of a 1km (U11-U12) or 2km (U13-U14) on a soft sand course.

Surf Race  U9-U14

Competitors sprint from the start line into the surf and swim around a set of buoys and return to shore.

Ironman/woman U11-U14

Swim, board & run. the order is swim leg followed by a board leg.

Beach Sprint

Run either 50m (U8) or 70m (U9-14) on the beach track.

Team Events

March Past

Teams of 12 are judged on their ability to march around the main carnival area. This event is steeped in tradition as it was initially designed as an event for clubs to parade their colours.

Cameron Relay U11-U14

JNR/SNR- Team has four members: One swimmer, two runners and a board paddler.

All Age Beach Relay - U8-U14

A beach event with 7 team members, 1 from each age group - run from youngest to oldest.

Beach Relay

A team of 4 individually run the set track to pass the baton to their team mate.

Buchanan Relay - U8-U10

A six person team consisting of Four U8's (3 runners, 1 wader), one U9 ( swim or board paddle) and one U10 (swim or board paddle).To finish, a competitor rounds one green/yellow turning flag passes the other green/ yellow flag on the shoreward side and finishes between the two green finish flags.

Board Relay - U9-U14

A relay team of three, individually paddle around the course and sprint to tag their team mate.

Board Rescue - U11-U14

JNR/SNR- Team consist of two competitors: a swimmer and a board paddler. Swimmer swims to the buoys and signals the board paddler to rescue them. Both return to the beach on the board and run to finish line while both holding the board.

All Age Board Relay - U9-U14

A board paddling event with 6 team members, 1 from each age group - run from youngest to oldest. Competitors sprint from the start line, paddling through the break, around a set of buoys and return to shore where they sprint to tap their team who must be behind the changeover line. The first team to have all members finish, with the final paddler crossing the line with their board.

Swim Teams - U9-U14

A team of four competitors sprint from the start line into the surf, swim around a set of buoys and return to shore

Wade Relay - U8

A team of three competitors sprint from the start line into the water and wade around a set course.
