Yamba Patrol Members on Surf Club Stairs celebrating Rainbow Beaches Day 2026

Yamba Patrol

Your Beach. Your Safety. Your Club

Yamba SLSC is dedicated to keeping Main Beach safe for everyone. Our patrol season runs from the September school holidays to the last weekend in April, with 9 volunteer patrol groups on weekends and public holidays.

Patrol members hold essential SLSA lifesaving awards and complete their annual Proficiency each season. Each group includes Bronze Medallion holders, an IRB driver, and an Advanced Resuscitation Certificate holder. Patrols are an important responsibility, and members are expected to meet their rostered commitments. New patrolling members are always welcome, and Bronze Medallion courses are run periodically throughout the season.

Patrol Information

Yamba SLSC patrols Yamba Main Beach on weekends from September through to ANZAC Day, including public holidays during the patrol season.

Patrol Hours
Patrol times vary throughout the season to align with beach usage and risk levels.

  • Shoulder Season (September – Early December)
    9:00am – 3:00pm (Full Patrol)

  • Peak Season (Summer Holidays)
9:00am – 5:00pm, delivered across two half-day teams (morning and afternoon shifts)

  • Late Season (March – ANZAC Day)
    9:00am – 3:00pm (Full Patrol)

Off-season patrol rotations may occur monthly, while peak season rotations are typically fortnightly.

All patrolling members are expected to meet their rostered commitments. Competitors must complete a minimum of 25 patrol hours. Please arrive 20–30 minutes prior to the 9:00am start time to assist with IRB and beach set-up, as the rostered start time includes operational readiness.

Members share responsibility for setting up and packing down equipment and must wear full patrol uniform, including patrol hat and Qantas patrol shorts and shirt, along with sun protection and water. All members are required to sign on and off with the Patrol Captain.

Members must complete their annual Proficiency by 31 December and ensure membership is financial by 30 July. If you need to leave patrol early, please notify your Patrol Captain in advance.

Patrol rosters, hours and requirements are guided by our Lifesaving Agreement, which is reviewed every two seasons. Operational statistics collected during patrols assist Surf Life Saving NSW in determining future lifesaving service requirements.

Flexibility & Substitutions

We understand that members have work, family and other commitments outside of Surf Life Saving. If you’re unable to attend your allocated patrol, there are several flexible options to help maintain coverage while supporting our volunteers. Members can arrange a direct swap with another patrol member, use our internal communication channels — including a dedicated Facebook group — to find a substitute, or request assistance from our Active Reserve members, who are experienced lifesavers available to step in when needed. Our aim is to maintain strong patrol coverage while recognising the realities of busy lives and ensuring volunteering remains sustainable and enjoyable for everyone.
