Nipper Swim Profiency
All Nippers (U6–U14) are required to complete a water proficiency assessment before taking part in any water activities. Please note, we are not a learn-to-swim program — there are many excellent swim schools throughout the Clarence Valley that can help your child build their skills. Swimming lessons are important for helping kids feel confident, safe, and capable in the surf, making Nippers a more enjoyable experience.
This assessment is not pass or fail. Children who don’t succeed on their first attempt are encouraged to try again. Assessments are held at the Yamba Community Pool before the season begins, giving every child the chance to be prepared and confident in the water.
Junior Group Evaluations
Surf Life Saving Australia sets the minimum standards of water proficiency that each child must attain before being eligible to participate in club water activities, training or competition. Prior to commencement of the nippers water based activities, the Junior Preliminary Evaluation skills must be attained specific to each age group.

Competition Evaluation
In addition, Junior Competition Evaluations are completed during Nippers sessions to ensure all nippers who wish to compete at carnivals have sufficient ability, strength & fitness.
